| The competition to crown the 2008 Weston Idol winner at Presidents’ Fest In The Park has begun. Singers from ages five to twenty five are participating in vocal auditions which are being held at the Bell Tower in Town Center on Tuesdays and Sundays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Kati Bradley, the director and producer of the 3rd Annual Weston Idol competition came up with the novel idea last year as a way for local singers to compete and get exposure. Kati runs Kati’s Shining Stars, a vocal and performing arts camp in Weston. Last year over 2500 people witnessed the crowning of Weston’s own singing idols, with winners in four different age categories. According to Kati, the competitors are actually very supportive of one another and cheer each other on. “I had one young man say that he would have to come in second place so his friend could win!” The singers will be judged for over-all performance, stage presence and voice. The contest will wrap up on Friday, February 15th at the President’s Fest in Markham Park from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The winners will be divided into three different age categories with three prizes in each category. First place winners will receive a $1000 prize, the second place winners will receive a $500 prize and the third place winners will get $250. The finals at the President’s Fest are expected to attract a huge audience and celebrity judges Kati Bradley has been developing young singers for over 17 years. She has performed as a professional vocalist and has worked with many well-known singers including Shania Twain. “All our students have been fascinated by the American Idol competition over the years,” Kati said. “I just thought this was a great way to bring the thrill of the competition to Weston.” To sign up for the contest, or to get more information, contact Kati at 954-245-1569. |
